One of Jamaica’s best and most enduring vocalists, John Holt recorded his first single (for legendary producer Leslie Kong) in 1963, found success with the Paragons (he wrote “The Tide Is High” for the group -- the song was later an international hit for Blondie) through the 1960s, then left the group for a successful solo career in 1970. By this time he was working often with producer Bunny Lee and the pair tracked several memorable singles, including the title tune here, “Stick by Me,” which was the biggest-selling record in Jamaica in 1973. This three-disc, 30-track set (at ten songs a disc, it could easily have been condensed to two discs, if not one) collects a rather random assortment of Lee-produced tracks, including “Stick by Me,” and it’s a pleasant listen but hardly an essential survey of this fine singer’s recorded work. ~ Steve Leggett
