There is something different about adventurers; about the way their minds work. They look at the world as a place of challenges and though they know what fear is, they refuse to be hindered by it.TRUE SPIRIT is Jessica's story and in it she will detail her preparation, her journey and her battle with sleep deprivation, gale-force winds, mountainous seas, natural hazards like whales and icebergs and holding firm against the solitude that most of us can only imagine dealing with alone on a vast sea with no land to be seen and no help close at hand. The name Jessica Watson will soon be part of sailing history. She will join Jesse Martin and Kay Cottee as someone all Australians can be inspired by. Jessica Watson is a dreamer who dares to do.

For those of you that have had to read such a rubbish review "Silly Girl" will no doubt agree that the person who attempted to trash Jessica has never tried to do anything in life remotely interesting or difficult. It only takes a few nasty words written by your hand to show the world that you are a true loser and no one respects you. Get a life and walk outside your door and try to do something different and remotely difficult - expand your mind!18/09/2010
And in doing so had an occasion to read the "reviews?" posted by Kathlyn W and Tom H. I thought this was about your personal opinion of the book "True Spirit". No where do either of these two persons say that they even read the book. They are simply attack statements. If you read it and didn't like it, so be it. But for Borders Books to allow patently clear personal attacks on Jessica is unforgivable. Like or don't like the book, I don't care. But your comments are nothing close to be in a review. How can someone refer to Jess as a "SILLY GIRL" ?!!??!? . . . Only Someone who is a Failure Themselves. I'm not trying to be abusive to the Author of That Post "SILLY GIRL", but I rather feel sorry for that person. If you can't say something GOOD about that Beautiful Talented Girl, then BUTT OUT and keep your opinions to yourself. I belive in FREE SPEACH and being able to Express Your Opinion, but what you are implying is Plain Rude.12/08/2010
Haha poor Kathlyn, all those who feel sorry for someone who writes such reviews should vote with their wallets and buy Jessicas book. Thats exactly what I will do. We need more Jessicas in Australia and less jealous inadequate "do-nothings". Buy the book Australia.18/08/2010
Poor Poor Kathlyn W, i feel very sorry for you that you feel that way about a truly inspiring person who has achieved her dream, maybe you havnt achieved your dreams so you are picking on someone who has to make youself feel a little better, but all youve done is make youself look like a complete idiot. Jessica Watson has done a truly amazing thing and coped alot of criticism for trying it but shes held her head high and done it and proved them all wrong (in your faces is all i can say). She has inspired many people to follow there dreams and get out there and enjoy life to the fullest, including my young 10 year old daughter who has now started sailing lessons. Good on ya Jessica. lovin your work.18/09/2010
I was able to quickly read Jessica Watson's vivid account of her round the world voyage on Ella's Pink Lady. Why quickly? It was because I had followed her voyage almost from the beginning and read the blog updates almost every day and posted comments quite often. Therefore, much of it was revisiting familiar territory while living her adventure again. "True Spirit" is a unpretentious account of a young girl that had a dream and meticulously charted a course to realize and accomplish that dream which she did on May 15, 2010 when she sailed back into Sydney Harbor. Her odyssey was the culmination of years (yes years) of planning, preparation and training in order to sail smart and with caution. This was in no way a spur of the moment decision. In the book, a reader will quickly realize the enormous support and encouragement she received from her family, her friends and professional sailors as she untiringly soaked up information she would need. This approach carried her through some absolutely terrifying moments where she experienced six knockdowns from brutal waves of 10 meters height and more. Alone at sea for 210 days, she experienced highs and lows but with maturity beyond her years she constantly rose to meet any challenge the sea could throw at her."True Spirit" is a case study in human perseverance and determination and I highly recommend it to anyone who seeks a uplifting account of a young girl who first defined her dream and set out to make it happen. She aptly defines inspiration and in doing so has become a role model for young and old alike.11/10/2010
As one faithful blogger wrote regarding Jessica Watson: Every so often, the Universe presents humankind with a soul uniquely qualified to uplift and inspire others simply with the goodness of their being. You are most definitely one such special soul, kind lady.
