In the last decade, street art has become an increasingly commodified and lucrative industry - rising to commercial and public prominence, to the attention of institutions, passers by, academics and collectors alike. Not only has this changed the way we value and define art in the streets, but also the way we see the potential and limitations of gallery art. In Melbourne, as in other street art epicentres such as London, New York, Berlin, Paris and Barcelona, artists are increasingly coming to face the issues of working between the street, the studio and the gallery space - negotiating their limitations and exploring their advantages.
