This guide is written for young people from the ages of about 10 years to about 18 years, but could be useful also for people a little younger or older than this. The guide is based on a self-help programme for CFS with young people. We evaluated this programme and found that after a certain type of treatment, called cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), the majority of the young people who participated were less tired and were attending school at least 75 percent of the time. After 6 months, all the young people who had completed the CBT programme were back at school and 95 percent of them were attending full-time. As well as feeling less tired, most of them reported improvements in their social lives and had fewer worries.
