  • I didn't think about the eyebrows!

    20/01/2012

Go on, admit it, you had imaginary friends didn't you? Did you remember the eyebrows and whether they had wings, or could open doors, or had special powers?

Max thought of everything for his special friend Budo and Max is Budo's world. This story is about two mates and its pretty special, even when it gets scary because thats when real friends will come through, even if they are imaginary.

  • One of my favourite books ever!

    28/02/2012

I do believe this is my favourite read of the past 10 years. It's a fresh, quirky, original read that will warm your heart, and maybe require you to get some tissues (or maybe you're more reserved than me.)

The concept of a memoir from an imaginary friend's point of view is delightful, and Green fully fleshes out the idea with touches unexpected to the reader which are thoroughly charming. The end result is a story which has drama, suspense, comedy in spades, and a lot to say about love and how far one is willing to go for a loved one.

I think Matthew Green must still remember an imaginary friend or two. I can't say I do, and after reading this book that actually makes me feel a bit sad. Budo is such a special person (and he is, albeit an imaginary one) that I really hope I once knew someone like him.

Highly recommended for all (though be aware it is not a children's book), particularly for fans of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Room, and The Book Thief.
