Ansel Adams at 100 will be published in conjunction with an outstanding international exhibition that will open in August 2001 at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco -- Ansel's home town -- & travel for more than two years to Chicago, London, Berlin, New York, & Los Angeles. This exhibition & the book that accompanies it will present, along with a fresh look at Adams' classic images, an unexpected & sometimes unfamiliar body of Adams' work, offering the first serious effort to reconsider Adams' contribution to the art of photography in half a century. A critical & interpretive essay on Adams by Szarkowski will speak to Adams as an important modern artist. Ansel Adams at 100 will be splendidly produced. It is a deluxe book by every measure. The 110 plates, scanned from the very best print of each image, will be printed in impeccable tritone, under the direction of Richard Benson, Dean of the Yale School of Art & a renowned reproduction expert. Printed on special French paper, the book will be bound in full linen cloth, with matching slipcase, & designed by J. Abbott Miller of Pentagram. A special feature will be a reproduction print, suitable for framing & embossed with the AA seal, inserted in an envelope at the back of the book.
